Nadia Comaneci (Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej and is now Onesti) Romanian Gymnast born November 12, 1961. She was the first Romanian to be awarded a score of 10 during the Olympic sport. Bela Karolyi, who later became a Romanian Gymnastics Coach discovered Comaneci in the age of seven years old. Her first competition was at the national junior championships in 1969 where she placed 13th. She did well in the 1970 competition. In her first international competition in 1972 at a pre-Olympic Junior meet for the communist-bloc countries she was awarded three gold medals In 1973 and 1974, she was the junior all-around champion. She beat the Russian Lyudmila Torishcheva. The five-time European Champion at her first senior international competition held in the year 1975. In the event, she was awarded four golds and one silver. She was also the first female performer to make reverse double salos using the uneven parallel bar as part of her demount. The American Cup was hers. in the American Cup, held in New York City. Carol Marie Wayne is a US citizen born September 6 1942 in Chicago, Illinois. Carol was a part of the world of entertainment during her teenage years. She began her career as figure skater, performing alongside her sister Nina Wayne as part of the touring entertainment show named Ice Capades. The shows featured ice skating performance that was accompanied by musical theatre.
